Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

مسند عبد الله بن العباس بن عبد المطلب (1) ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم

Hadith 25:1364

Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Salamah, from ‘Imran Abu al-Hakam al-Sulami, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: Quraysh said to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: "Call upon your Lord for us so that He may turn al-Safa into gold for us. If it becomes gold, we will follow you and we will know that what you said is as you said." So he asked his Lord, the Almighty and Majestic. Gabriel came to him and said: "If you wish, this al-Safa will become gold for them, but whoever disbelieves among them after that, I will punish him with a punishment that I have not punished anyone among the worlds with. And if you wish, We will open the doors of repentance for them." He said: "O Lord, no, rather open the doors of repentance for them."

حدثنا وكيع، عن سفيان، عن سلمة، عن عمران أبي الحكم السلمي، عن ابن عباس، قال: قالت قريش للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: ادع لنا ربك يصبح لنا الصفا ذهبة ، فإن أصبحت ذهبة اتبعناك، وعرفنا أن ما قلت كما قلت: فسأل ربه عز وجل، فأتاه جبريل، فقال: إن شئت أصبحت لهم هذه الصفا ذهبة، فمن كفر منهم بعد ذلك، عذبته عذابا لا أعذبه أحدا من العالمين، وإن شئت، فتحنا لهم أبواب التوبة، قال: " يا رب، لا، بل افتح لهم أبواب التوبة "
