Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)
Hadith 25:1515
I read to ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Malik, and Ishaq narrated to me, he said: Malik narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from ‘Ata’ ibn Yasar, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas, that he said: The sun eclipsed, so the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, prayed, and the people were with him. He stood for a long standing, he said: About the length of Surat al-Baqarah. He said: Then he bowed a long bowing, then he rose, and stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he departed, and the sun had cleared. He said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse for the death of anyone, nor for his life. So when you see that, then remember Allah." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something in this standing place of yours, then we saw you draw back." He said: "I saw Paradise—or I was shown Paradise, and Ishaq did not doubt, he said: I saw Paradise—so I reached for a cluster from it. And had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remained. And I saw the Fire, and I have not seen a sight more horrific than today, and I saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women." They said: "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Because of their ingratitude (kufr)." It was said: "Do they disbelieve in Allah, the Mighty and Majestic?" He said: "No, but they are ungrateful to their companions (husbands), and they are ungrateful for kindness. If you were to treat one of them kindly for an entire lifetime, then she saw something from you, she would say: 'I have never seen any good from you at all.'"
