Musnad Ahmad 25:1546

Bahz narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us, Qatadah informed us, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas: That the husband of Barirah was a black slave called Mughith, and I used to see him following her in the streets of Medina, with his eyes streaming with tears for her. He said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, issued four rulings regarding her: He ruled that the right of inheritance (al-wala’) belongs to the one who emancipated; he gave her the choice (to remain married or separate); he ordered her to observe the waiting period (idda) — Hammam said once: the waiting period of a free woman — and he said: A charity was given to her, and she gifted some of it to Aisha. She mentioned that to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he said: "It is charity for her, and a gift for us."
