Musnad Ahmad 25:1547

Bahz narrated to us, Aban ibn Yazid al-Attar narrated to us, Qatadah narrated to us, from Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib and from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, that the delegation of Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Among them was al-Ashaj, the brother of Banu Asr. They said: "O Prophet of Allah, we are a tribe from Rabi’ah, and between us and you are the disbelievers of Mudar, and we cannot reach you except during the Sacred Month. So command us with a matter that, if we act upon it, we will enter Paradise, and we will call those behind us to it." He commanded them with four and forbade them from four. He commanded them to worship Allah and not associate anything with Him, to fast Ramadan, to perform Hajj to the House, and to give the fifth of the spoils. He forbade them from four: drinking from the *hantam* (green glazed jars), the *duba* (gourds), the *naqir* (hollowed-out logs), and the *muzaffat* (pitch-coated vessels). They said: "In what shall we drink, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "You must use leather skins, the mouths of which are tied."
