Musnad Ahmad 25:1625

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abu Qilabah, from Ibn 'Abbas, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "My Lord, Mighty and Majestic is He, came to me tonight in the most beautiful form—I think he meant in a dream—and said: 'O Muhammad, do you know what the Highest Assembly is disputing about?' I said: 'No.'" The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Then He placed His hand between my shoulder blades, until I felt its coolness between my chest—or he said: my throat—and I knew what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. Then He said: 'O Muhammad, do you know what the Highest Assembly is disputing about?' I said: 'Yes, they are disputing about the expiations and the ranks.' He said: 'And what are the expiations and the ranks?' I said: 'Remaining in the mosques after the prayers, walking on foot to the congregations, and performing ablution thoroughly despite difficulties. Whoever does that will live in goodness and die in goodness, and he will be free of his sins like the day his mother gave birth to him.'" "And say, O Muhammad, when you pray: 'O Allah, I ask You for the good deeds, the abandonment of evil deeds, and the love of the poor. And if You intend a trial for Your servants, then take me to You without being tried.' He said: 'And the ranks are: providing food, spreading peace, and praying at night while the people are asleep.'"
