Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 25:1631

Yazid narrated to us, Abbad bin Mansur informed us, from Ikrimah bin Khalid al-Makhzumi, from Sa’id bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: I came to my maternal aunt, Maymunah bint al-Harith, and I spent the night at her place. I witnessed that night of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed the Isha prayer, then entered his house and placed his head on a pillow made of tanned leather stuffed with palm fibers. I came and placed my head on one side of it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up, looked, and saw that it was night, so he returned and glorified Allah (tasbih) and magnified Him (takbir) until he slept. Then he woke up when half the night—or he said: two-thirds of it—had passed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and relieved himself, then came to a water skin hanging on a wooden frame containing water. He rinsed his mouth three times, inhaled water into his nose three times, washed his face three times, and his forearms three times each, wiped his head and ears once, then washed his feet—Yazid said: I think he said: three times each. Then he came to his prayer place. I stood up and did as he had done, then I came and stood to his left, intending to pray with his prayer. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) waited until he knew that I intended to pray with his prayer, then he turned to his right, took hold of my ear, and turned me until he placed me to his right. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs for what he saw of the night. When he thought that dawn had approached, he stood and prayed six rak'ahs, and performed witr with the seventh. When dawn shone, he stood and prayed two rak'ahs, then laid his side down and slept until I heard his snoring. Then Bilal came to him and informed him of the prayer, so he went out and prayed without touching water. I said to Sa’id bin Jubayr: "How excellent this is!" Sa’id bin Jubayr said: "By Allah, I said that to Ibn Abbas, and he said: 'Hush! It is not for you nor for your companions; it is for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), for he was protected.'"
