Musnad Ahmad 25:186

Yahya narrated to us, from Shu'bah, 'Abd al-Malik ibn Maysarah narrated to me, from Tawus, who said: A man came to Ibn 'Abbas and asked him... And Sulayman ibn Dawud said: Shu'bah informed us, 'Abd al-Malik informed me, he said: I heard Tawus saying: A man asked Ibn 'Abbas—the meaning—about His saying, the Almighty and Exalted: "Say: I do not ask of you for it any reward except affection among the relatives" [Ash-Shura: 23]. Sa'id ibn Jubayr said: "The relatives of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." Ibn 'Abbas said: "You have been hasty. Indeed, there was no clan among Quraysh except that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had kinship with them. So it was revealed: 'Say: I do not ask of you for it any reward except affection among the relatives' [Ash-Shura: 23]: except that you maintain the kinship that is between me and you."
