Musnad Ahmad 25:278

Yazid narrated to us, Ibn Abi Dhi'b informed us, from Sa'id ibn Khalid, from Isma'il ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Dhu'ayb, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from Ibn 'Abbas: That the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went out to them while they were sitting, and he said: "Shall I not tell you of the person with the best status among the people?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "A man holding the reins of his horse in the way of Allah, until he dies or is killed. Shall I tell you of the one who follows him?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "A man who isolates himself in a mountain pass, establishes prayer, gives zakat, and keeps away from the evils of the people. Shall I tell you of the person with the worst status among the people?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "The one who asks by Allah, but is not given by Him."
