Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Hashimi narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to us, he said: Salih ibn Kaysan and the nephew of Ibn Shihab narrated to me, both of them from Ibn Shihab, from Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah, from Ibn Abbas. And Ya'qub said: My father narrated to us, from Salih. Ibn Shihab said: Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah informed me that Ibn Abbas informed him, he said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sent Abdullah ibn Hudhafah with his letter to Chosroes. He handed it to the governor of Bahrain, and the governor of Bahrain handed it to Chosroes—Ya'qub said: So the governor of Bahrain handed it to Chosroes—and when he read it, he tore it up." Ibn Shihab said: I think Ibn al-Musayyib said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, invoked against them that they be torn into every state of being torn."
