Musnad Ahmad 25:432

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ali bin Zayd, from Yusuf bin Mihran, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he said: When the Verse of Debt was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed, the first to deny was Adam, peace be upon him," or: "The first to deny was Adam." "Indeed, when Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, created Adam, He wiped his back and brought forth from it all that He created of his descendants until the Day of Resurrection. He began to present his descendants to him, and he saw among them a man who was shining. He said: 'O my Lord, who is this?' He said: 'This is your son, Dawud.' He said: 'O my Lord, how long is his lifespan?' He said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'O Lord, increase his lifespan.' He said: 'No, unless I increase it from your lifespan.' And Adam's lifespan was one thousand years, so He increased it by forty years. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, wrote a document regarding that and had the angels bear witness to it. "When Adam was dying and the angels came to take his soul, he said: 'There remain forty years of my lifespan.' It was said: 'You have gifted them to your son, Dawud.' He said: 'I did not do so.' Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, brought forth the document against him, and the angels bore witness to it."
