Hadith 25:433
'Affan narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, Abu Bishr narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not recite to the Jinn, nor did he see them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set out with a group of his companions, intending to go to the market of 'Ukaz, while a barrier had been placed between the devils and the news of the heaven, and shooting stars were sent upon them. He said: The devils returned to their people and they said: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "A barrier has been placed between us and the news of the heaven, and shooting stars have been sent upon us." He said: They said: "Nothing has placed a barrier between you and the news of the heaven except something that has occurred. So, traverse the easts of the earth and its wests, and look for what this is that has placed a barrier between you and the news of the heaven." He said: So they set out, traversing the easts of the earth and its wests, seeking what this was that had placed a barrier between them and the news of the heaven. He said: The group that had headed toward Tihamah turned toward the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) while he was in Nakhlah, intending to go to the market of 'Ukaz, and he was leading his companions in the dawn prayer. He said: When they heard the Qur'an, they listened to it and said: "By Allah, this is what has placed a barrier between you and the news of the heaven." He said: It was then that they returned to their people and said: "O our people, {Indeed, we have heard a wonderful Qur'an. It guides to the right course, so we have believed in it} [Al-Jinn: 2]" to the end of the verse. Then Allah revealed to His Prophet (ﷺ): {Say, "It has been revealed to me that..."} [Al-Jinn: 1]. And it was only revealed to him the speech of the Jinn.
