Musnad Ahmad 25:46

Muhammad ibn Mus'ab narrated to us, al-Awza'i narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Ali ibn al-Husayn, from Ibn Abbas: Men from the Ansar, from the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), narrated to me that they were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) one night, when a star was shot. He mentioned the hadith, except that he said: "When our Lord decrees a matter, the bearers of the Throne glorify Him, then those who are next to them, then those who are next to them, until the glorification reaches the lowest heaven. Then those who are next to the bearers of the Throne say to the bearers of the Throne: 'What did your Lord say?' They say: 'The Truth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.' So they say [what He said], and the inhabitants of the heavens inform one another, until the news reaches the lowest heaven." He said: "The devils come and listen to the news, then they cast it to their allies and throw it to them. Whatever they bring as it is, it is the truth, but they add to it, they fabricate, and they diminish."
