Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Yahya ibn Zakariyya narrated to us, from Dawud, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "Quraysh said to the Jews: 'Give us something to ask this man about.' They said: 'Ask him about the Spirit (al-Ruh).' So they asked him, and it was revealed: {And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little."} [Al-Isra: 85]. They said: 'We have been given much knowledge; we have been given the Torah, and whoever is given the Torah has been given much good.' He said: Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: {Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted."} [Al-Kahf: 109]." 2310 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us—'Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: And I heard it myself from Ibn Abi Shaybah—he said: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the Aslami: "Perhaps you kissed, or touched, or looked." 2311 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us—and I heard it myself from 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad—Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) intended to set out on a journey, he would say: "O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Successor in the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the journey and the gloom of the return. O Allah, fold the earth for us and make the journey easy for us." And when he intended to return, he would say: "Returning, repenting, worshipping, praising our Lord." And when he entered upon his family, he would say: "Repentance, repentance, to our Lord we return, may He leave no sin upon us." 2312 - And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "People from my nation will recite the Quran, passing through Islam just as an arrow passes through the game." 2313 - And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not face [the Qiblah while relieving yourselves], do not be heedless, and do not call out to one another." 2314 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—'Abdullah said: And I heard it from 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad—he said: 'Abdah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Ya'qub ibn 'Utbah, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: That the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) confirmed Umayyah regarding some of his poetry. He said: "A man and a bull beneath his right foot, And the eagle for the other, and a lion in wait." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He spoke the truth." And he said: "And the sun rises at the end of every night, Red, its color becoming rosy. It refuses, so it does not rise for us in its path, Except tormented or struggling." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He spoke the truth." 2315 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad—'Abd al-Salam ibn Harb narrated to us, from Yazid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Qatadah, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ibn 'Abbas, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no ablution required for one who sleeps while prostrating, until he lies down; for if he lies down, his joints relax." 2316 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas: That a man took a woman, or captured her, and she struggled against the hilt of his sword, so he killed her. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by her and was informed of her affair, so he forbade the killing of women. 2317 - And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent [an army] to Mu'tah and appointed Zayd in command. "If Zayd is killed, then Ja'far; if Ja'far is killed, then Ibn Rawahah." Ibn Rawahah stayed behind, so he gathered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he saw him and said: "What kept you back?" He said: "I am gathering with you." He said: "A morning or an evening [spent in the cause of Allah] is better than the world and what is in it." 2318 - And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He is not of us who has intercourse with a pregnant woman." 2319 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—'Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: A man from the polytheists was killed on the day of the Trench, and they requested the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to hand over his body. He said: "No, and no honor to you." They said: "We will give you a price for that." He said: "That is more evil and more evil." 2320 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—from Sharik, from Husayn, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "That the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed in a single garment, wrapping himself in it, protecting himself with its excess from the heat and cold of the earth." 2321 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Dawud, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "Abu Jahl passed by and said: 'Did I not forbid you?' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) rebuked him. Abu Jahl said to him: 'Why do you rebuke me, O Muhammad? By Allah, you know that there is no man here with a larger assembly than me.' He said: Then Gabriel (peace be upon him) said: {Then let him call his associates.} [Al-'Alaq: 17]." Ibn 'Abbas said: "By Allah, if he had called his associates, the angels of punishment would have seized him." 2322 - 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—he said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad al-Muharibi narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): That he used to "deliver the sermon on Friday standing, then he would sit, then he would stand and deliver the sermon." 2323 - 'Uthman ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from 'Uthman ibn Muhammad—Jarir narrated to us, from Qabus, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is not one of you but has been assigned his companion from among the jinn." They said: "Even you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes, but Allah helped me against him, so he submitted." 2324 - 'Uthman ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—Jarir narrated to us, from Qabus, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "On the night the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was taken on the Night Journey, he entered Paradise and heard a rustling from its side. He said: 'O Gabriel, what is this?' He said: 'This is Bilal the caller to prayer.'" When the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to the people, he said: "Bilal has succeeded; I saw for him such and such." He said: "Then Moses (peace be upon him) met him and welcomed him, saying: 'Welcome to the unlettered Prophet.' He was a dark-skinned man, tall, with straight hair reaching his ears or above them. He said: 'Who is this, O Gabriel?' He said: 'This is Moses (peace be upon him).' Then he went on and Jesus met him and welcomed him. He said: 'Who is this, O Gabriel?' He said: 'This is Jesus.' Then he went on and a majestic, venerable old man met him, welcomed him, and greeted him, and they all greeted him. He said: 'Who is this, O Gabriel?' He said: 'This is your father Abraham.' He said: Then he looked into the Fire and saw people eating carrion. He said: 'Who are these, O Gabriel?' He said: 'These are those who eat the flesh of people.' And he saw a man, red, blue-eyed, curly-haired, disheveled; when you saw him... He said: 'Who is this, O Gabriel?' He said: 'This is the hamstrung of the she-camel.' He said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque, he stood to pray, then he turned and saw all the prophets praying with him. When he finished, two cups were brought, one on the right and the other on the left; in one was milk and in the other honey. He took the milk and drank from it. The one who was with the cup said: 'You have attained the natural state (Fitrah).'" 2325 - 'Uthman ibn Muhammad narrated to us—and I heard it myself from him—he said: Jarir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Kurayb, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "I stood with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in prayer on his left, so he moved me to his right."
