Musnad Ahmad 25:544

Hassan ibn Musa narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an, from Yusuf ibn Mahran, from Ibn Abbas: "That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was visited by two angels in what a sleeper sees. One of them sat at his feet, and the other at his head. The one at his feet said to the one at his head: 'Strike a parable for him and his nation.' He said: 'His parable and the parable of his nation is like a group of travelers who reached the edge of a desert, and they did not have enough provisions to cross the desert, nor did they have enough to return. While they were in that state, a man came to them wearing a striped garment and said: "Do you see, if I were to bring you to lush meadows and abundant watering holes, would you follow me?" They said: "Yes." He said: "So he set off with them and brought them to lush meadows and abundant watering holes, and they ate, drank, and grew fat. Then he said to them: "Did I not find you in that state, and you promised me that if I brought you to lush meadows and abundant watering holes, you would follow me?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Then before you are meadows even lusher than these, and watering holes even more abundant than these, so follow me." He said: A group said: "By Allah, he has spoken the truth; we will surely follow him." And a group said: "We are satisfied with this; we will remain upon it."'"
