Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)
Hadith 25:624
Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Israel narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: "The jinn used to listen to the revelation, so they would hear a word and add ten to it. Thus, what they heard would be true, and what they added would be false. Stars were not used to shoot [at them] before that. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sent, one of them would not come to his seat [in the heavens] without being struck by a shooting star that would burn whatever it hit. They complained about that to Iblis, and he said: 'This is nothing but an event that has occurred.' So he dispatched his soldiers, and they found the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, praying between the two mountains of Nakhla. They came to him and informed him, and he said: 'This is the event that has occurred on the earth.'"
