Mu'awiyah ibn 'Amr narrated to us, he said: Za'idah narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn Khuthaym narrated to us, he said: 'Abdullah ibn Abi Mulaykah narrated to me, that Dhakwan, the chamberlain of 'Aishah, narrated to him: That 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas came seeking permission to enter upon 'Aishah. I came while her nephew, 'Abdullah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, was at her head. I said: "This is Ibn 'Abbas seeking permission." Her nephew 'Abdullah leaned over her and said: "This is 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas seeking permission," while she was dying. She said: "Leave me be, away from Ibn 'Abbas." He said: "O mother, indeed Ibn 'Abbas is among the righteous of your sons; he wishes to greet you and bid you farewell." She said: "Give him permission if you wish." He said: So I let him in. When he sat, he said: "Rejoice." She said: "Also?" He said: "There is nothing between you and meeting Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the loved ones, except that the soul departs from the body. You were the most beloved of the wives of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to the Messenger of Allah, and the Messenger of Allah did not love except what is pure. Your necklace fell on the night of al-Abwa', and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, remained until morning in that place, and the people remained without water." Then Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed: {Then perform tayammum with pure earth} [An-Nisa': 43]. That was because of you, and because of the concession Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed for this nation. And Allah revealed your innocence from above seven heavens, brought by the Trustworthy Spirit. So there is no mosque among the mosques of Allah where Allah is remembered, but that it is recited therein during the hours of the night and the hours of the day. She said: "Leave me be, O Ibn 'Abbas. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I wish that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight."
