Musnad Ahmad 25:655

Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, Shahr narrated to us, Ibn 'Abbas said: A group of Jews attended the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, one day. They said: "O Abu al-Qasim, tell us about traits we will ask you about, which no one knows except a prophet." He said: "Ask me what you wish, but grant me the covenant of Allah and what Ya'qub, peace be upon him, took from his sons: that if I tell you something and you recognize it, you will follow me in Islam." They said: "That is for you." He said: "Then ask me what you wish." They said: "Inform us about four traits we will ask you about: Inform us which food Israel (Ya'qub) forbade for himself before the Torah was revealed? Inform us how the fluid of the woman and the fluid of the man are? How is the male [child] produced from them? And inform us how this unlettered Prophet is in sleep? And who is his guardian among the angels?" He said: "Upon you is the covenant of Allah and His pledge that if I inform you, you will follow me?" They gave him whatever he wished of covenant and pledge. He said: "I adjure you by the One who revealed the Torah to Musa, peace be upon him, do you know that Israel (Ya'qub), peace be upon him, fell severely ill, and his sickness lasted long, so he made a vow to Allah that if Allah the Exalted cured him of his sickness, he would forbid for himself the drink most beloved to him and the food most beloved to him? And the food most beloved to him was camel meat, and the drink most beloved to him was its milk?" They said: "O Allah, yes." He said: "O Allah, bear witness against them." He said: "I adjure you by Allah, besides whom there is no god, who revealed the Torah to Musa, do you know that the fluid of the man is white and thick, and the fluid of the woman is yellow and thin, and whichever of them prevails, the child and the resemblance will be theirs by the permission of Allah? If the fluid of the man prevails over the fluid of the woman, it is a male by the permission of Allah, and if the fluid of the woman prevails over the fluid of the man, it is a female by the permission of Allah?" They said: "O Allah, yes." He said: "O Allah, bear witness against them." He said: "I adjure you by the One who revealed the Torah to Musa, do you know that this unlettered Prophet, his eyes sleep but his heart does not sleep?" They said: "O Allah, yes." He said: "O Allah, bear witness." They said: "Now tell us: who is your guardian among the angels? For upon that we will either join you or leave you." He said: "My guardian is Jibril, peace be upon him, and Allah has never sent a prophet except that he was his guardian." They said: "Then we will leave you. If your guardian were someone else among the angels, we would have followed you and believed you." He said: "Then what prevents you from believing him?" They said: "He is our enemy." He said: Then at that, Allah the Exalted said: {Say, "Whoever is an enemy to Jibril - it is he who has brought it down upon your heart, by permission of Allah"} [Al-Baqarah: 97] up to His saying: {the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know} [Al-Baqarah: 101]. At that: {They have drawn upon themselves wrath upon wrath} [Al-Baqarah: 90] the verse.
