Musnad Ahmad 25:683

'Affan narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us, he said: Qatadah informed us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, that the husband of Barirah was a black slave called Mughith. He said: I used to see him following her in the streets of Medina, his eyes streaming with tears for her. He said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, issued four rulings regarding her: Her masters stipulated the right of inheritance (al-wala'), so the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ruled: "The right of inheritance belongs to the one who emancipates." He gave her the choice, so she chose herself. He commanded her to observe the waiting period ('iddah). He said: And charity was given to her, so she gifted some of it to 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her. She mentioned that to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he said: "It is charity for her, and a gift for us."
