Musnad Ahmad 25:748

Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 25:748

Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Abdullah informed us, he said: Husayn ibn Abdullah ibn Ubaydullah ibn Abbas informed us, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade the *naqir* (hollowed-out log), the *dabba* (gourd), and the *muzaffat* (pitch-coated vessel). He said: "Do not drink except from that which has a tie (i.e., a skin with a mouth that can be tied)." So they made vessels from camel skins, then they attached necks to them made from sheep skins. This reached him, so he said: "Do not drink except from that which its top is of its own [material]."
