Musnad Ahmad 25:825

Yunus narrated to us, 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, Sulayman al-Shaybani narrated to us, he said: Yazid ibn al-Asamm narrated to us, he said: A man invited us, and a tray was brought upon which were thirteen dabb lizards. He said: That was dinner, and some ate while others refrained. When morning came, we went to Ibn 'Abbas and I asked him about it. Those sitting with him spoke at length about it, until some of them said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I do not eat it, nor do I forbid it." Ibn 'Abbas said: How evil is what you have said! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was only sent as one who permits and one who forbids. Then he said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was with Maymunah, and with him were al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas, Khalid ibn al-Walid, and a woman. A tray was brought upon which was bread and the meat of a dabb lizard. He said: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to take some, Maymunah said to him: "It is the meat of a dabb lizard, O Messenger of Allah." He withdrew his hand and said: "It is meat that I do not eat, but eat [it]." He said: So al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas, Khalid ibn al-Walid, and the woman ate. He said: And Maymunah said: "I will not eat of food from which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not eat."
