Musnad Ahmad 25:852

Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 25:852

Ishaq—meaning Ibn Isa—narrated to us, he said: Malik informed us, from Zayd—meaning Ibn Aslam—from Ata ibn Yasar, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The sun suffered an eclipse, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed, and the people were with him. He stood for a long standing, he said: Approximately the length of Surah Al-Baqarah. Then he bowed a long bowing, then he rose and stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he stood and stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. My father said: And in what I read to Abd al-Rahman, he said: Then he stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he stood for a long standing, which was shorter than the first standing. Then he bowed a long bowing, which was shorter than the first bowing. Then he prostrated, then he finished. Then he returned to the hadith of Ishaq: Then he finished, and the sun had cleared. He said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for his life. So when you see that, then remember Allah." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something in your place, then we saw you draw back?" He said: "I saw Paradise, so I reached for a cluster from it; and had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remained. And I saw the Fire, and I have never seen a sight like today, and I saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women." They said: "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Because of their disbelief." It was said: "Do they disbelieve in Allah?" He said: "They are ungrateful to their husbands, and they are ungrateful for kindness. If you were to treat one of them kindly for a lifetime, then she saw something from you, she would say: 'I have never seen any good from you at all.'"
