Musnad Ahmad 25:904

Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 25:904

Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Nafi' ibn Yazid, that Qays ibn al-Hajjaj narrated to him, that Hanash narrated to him, that Ibn Abbas narrated to him, he said: I was riding behind the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he said to me: "O young boy, I am going to tell you a statement: Guard Allah, He will guard you. Guard Allah, you will find Him before you. If you ask, then ask Allah, and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah. For the pens have been lifted and the scrolls have dried. If the nation were to come to benefit you with something that Allah the Almighty had not written for you, they would not be able to. And if they wanted to harm you with something that Allah had not written for you, they would not be able to."
