Musnad Ahmad 25:923

Muhammad ibn al-Sabah narrated to us, Isma'il—meaning Ibn Zakariyya—narrated to us, from 'Abdullah—meaning Ibn 'Uthman—from Abu al-Tufayl, from Ibn 'Abbas: That when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) descended at Marr al-Zahran during his 'Umrah, it reached the companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that Quraysh were saying: "They are not being raised up [i.e., they are weak] due to emaciation." His companions said: "If we were to slaughter some of our mounts, eat of their meat, and drink of their broth, we would be refreshed tomorrow when we enter upon the people." He said: "Do not do that, but gather for me from your provisions." So they gathered for him, and they spread out the leather mats, and they ate until they were satisfied, and each one of them scooped [some] into his provision bag. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) proceeded until he entered the Mosque, and Quraysh were sitting toward the Hijr. He placed his garment under his armpit [exposing his right shoulder], then said: "Let the people not see any weakness in you." He touched the Corner [the Black Stone], then entered, and when he was hidden by the Yemeni Corner, he walked to the Black Corner. Quraysh said: "They are not content with walking; they are leaping like gazelles." He did that for three circuits, and it became a Sunnah. Abu al-Tufayl said: And Ibn 'Abbas informed me that the Prophet (ﷺ) did that during the Farewell Pilgrimage.
