'Abd al-Samad and 'Affan narrated to us, they said: Hammam narrated to us, Qatadah narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, performed *tawaf* (circumambulation) at a brisk pace, and he performed *tawaf* at a brisk pace, and he only performed *tawaf* [that way] to show the polytheists his strength." And 'Affan said: "And for that, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, liked to show the people his strength."
