Hadith 28:168

Mu'awiyah ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Muhammad Abu Ishaq al-Fazari narrated to us, al-Awza'i narrated to us, Rabi'ah ibn Yazid narrated to me, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Daylami, who said: I entered upon 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr while he was in a garden of his in al-Ta'if called al-Wahṭ, and he was holding the arm of a young man from Quraysh who was accused of drinking wine. I said: "A hadith has reached me from you: that whoever drinks a drink of wine, Allah will not accept his repentance for forty mornings; and that the wretched one is he who was wretched in his mother's womb; and that whoever comes to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), with nothing urging him but prayer in it, he emerges from his sin like the day his mother gave birth to him." When the young man heard the mention of wine, he pulled his hand away from his [Ibn 'Amr's] hand and left. Then 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr said: "I do not permit anyone to say about me what I did not say. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'Whoever drinks a drink of wine, no prayer of his will be accepted for forty mornings. If he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he returns [to it], no prayer of his will be accepted for forty mornings. If he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he returns [to it]'—he said: 'I do not know if it was the third or the fourth time'—'if he returns, it is a duty upon Allah to give him to drink from the mud of khabal (the discharge of the people of Hell) on the Day of Resurrection.'" He said: And I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, created His creation in darkness, then He cast upon them some of His light on that day. So whoever was touched by His light on that day was guided, and whoever missed it went astray." Therefore, I say: The Pen has dried upon the knowledge of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. And I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "Indeed, Sulayman ibn Dawud (peace be upon him) asked Allah for three things; He gave him two, and we hope that the third is for him: He asked Him for a judgment that coincides with His judgment, and Allah gave it to him. He asked Him for a kingdom that would not be appropriate for anyone after him, and He gave it to him. And he asked Him that any man who leaves his house, intending nothing but prayer in this mosque, would emerge from his sin like the day his mother gave birth to him; and we hope that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has granted it to him."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
