Musnad Ahmad 28:185

Haytham ibn Kharijah narrated to us, Hafs ibn Maysarah narrated to us, from Ibn Harmalah, from ‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No one shall narrate stories to the people except an amir (a leader), or one who is commanded (by the leader), or a show-off (one who seeks reputation)."
