Musnad Ahmad 28:234

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed me, that Ibn Jurayj informed him, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As: That Zunba' Abu Rawh found a slave of his with a slave-girl of his, so he cut off his nose and his ears. He came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said: "Who did this to you?" He said: "Zunba'." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, summoned him and said: "What compelled you to do this?" He said: "Such and such happened regarding his affair." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to the slave: "Go, for you are free." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, then whose freedman (mawla) am I?" He said: "The freedman of Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, then commended him to the Muslims. He said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed away, he came to Abu Bakr and said: "The bequest of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." He said: "Yes, we shall provide for your maintenance and the maintenance of your family." So he provided for him until Abu Bakr passed away. When 'Umar became the caliph, he came to him and said: "The bequest of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." He said: "Yes, where do you wish to go?" He said: "Egypt." So 'Umar wrote to the governor of Egypt to give him land from which he could eat.
