Musnad Ahmad 28:249

'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, my father narrated to me, Habib narrated to us, from 'Amr, from his father, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, that Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have trained hunting dogs, so give me a legal opinion regarding their catch." He said: "If you have trained hunting dogs, then eat from what they catch for you." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, whether it is slaughtered or not slaughtered?" He said: "Whether it is slaughtered or not slaughtered." He said: "Even if it has eaten from it?" He said: "Even if it has eaten from it." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, give me a legal opinion regarding my bow." He said: "Eat from what your bow catches for you." He said: "Whether it is slaughtered or not slaughtered?" He said: "Whether it is slaughtered or not slaughtered." He said: "Even if it disappears from my sight?" He said: "Even if it disappears from your sight, as long as it does not become putrid"—meaning it changes—"or you find in it the mark of something other than your arrow." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, give us a legal opinion regarding the vessels of the Magians if we are compelled to use them?" He said: "If you are compelled to use them, then wash them with water and cook in them."
