Hadith 28:27
Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Rabb al-Ka'bah, who said: I arrived at 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah, and I heard him say: While we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a journey, he stopped at a place. Some of us were setting up our tents, some were tending to their livestock, and some were practicing archery, when his caller called out: "Prayer is gathering." So we gathered, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood and addressed us, saying: "There has never been a prophet before me but that he guided his nation to what he knew was good for them, and warned them against what he knew was evil for them. This nation of yours has had its well-being placed in its beginning, and its latter part will be afflicted with severe trials and matters that you will disapprove of. Trials will come, with some making others seem light. A trial will come, and the believer will say: 'This is what will destroy me,' then it will pass. Then another trial will come, and he will say: 'This is it,' then it will pass. So whoever among you wishes to be distanced from the Fire and to enter Paradise, let his death come to him while he believes in Allah and the Last Day, and let him treat people as he would love to be treated. And whoever pledges allegiance to an Imam, giving him the clasp of his hand and the fruit of his heart, let him obey him as much as he is able. If another comes to dispute with him, strike the neck of the other." I poked my head out from among the people and said: "I adjure you by Allah, did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" He pointed with his hands to his ears and said: "My ears heard it, and my heart grasped it." I said: "This cousin of yours, Mu'awiyah, commands us to consume our wealth among ourselves unjustly and to kill one another, while Allah the Exalted has said: 'O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly' [An-Nisa: 29]." He joined his hands and placed them on his forehead, then bowed his head for a while, then raised his head and said: "Obey him in the obedience of Allah, and disobey him in the disobedience of Allah the Mighty and Majestic."
