'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Abu 'Imran al-Jawni, who said: 'Abd Allah ibn Rabah wrote to me, narrating from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr, who said: I went early to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) one day. While we were sitting, two men differed regarding a verse, and their voices rose. He (the Prophet) said: "The nations before you were only destroyed because of their disagreement regarding the Book."
