Musnad Ahmad 28:375

Khalaf ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Ibn ‘Ayyash narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ziyad al-Alhani, from Abu Rashid al-Hubrani, who said: I came to ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As and said to him: "Narrate to us what you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He cast a scroll before me and said: "This is what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wrote for me." I looked into it, and therein it said: That Abu Bakr al-Siddiq said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me what I should say when I reach the morning and when I reach the evening." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him: "O Abu Bakr, say: 'O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, there is no god but You, Lord of everything and its Sovereign. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, and from the evil of Satan and his shirk (polytheism/entrapment), and that I should commit evil against my soul, or draw it to a Muslim.'"
