Hadith 28:409

Abdullah [ibn Ahmad] narrated to us, Abbas ibn Abd al-Azim al-Anbari narrated to me, Abu Salamah Ubayd ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Hanafi narrated to us, al-Junayd ibn Amin ibn Dhirwah ibn Nadlah ibn Tarif ibn Bahsal al-Harmazi narrated to me, my father Amin ibn Dhirwah narrated to me, from his father Dhirwah ibn Nadlah, from his father Nadlah ibn Tarif: That a man among them, who was called al-A'sha, and his name was Abdullah ibn al-A'war, had a wife called Mu'adhah. He went out in Rajab to bring provisions for his family from Hajar, and his wife fled after him, being rebellious against him, and she sought refuge with a man among them called Mutarrif ibn Bahsal ibn Ka'b ibn Qumaysha' ibn Dalaf ibn Ahdam ibn Abdullah. He placed her behind his back. When he (the husband) arrived and did not find her in his house, and was informed that she had rebelled against him and that she had sought refuge with Mutarrif ibn Bahsal, he came to him and said: "O cousin, is my wife Mu'adhah with you? Hand her over to me." He said: "She is not with me, and even if she were with me, I would not hand her over to you." It was said that Mutarrif was more powerful than him. So he went out until he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and sought refuge with him, and began to recite: "O master of the people and leader of the Arabs, To you I complain of a sharp one among the sharp, Like a grey wolf in the shadow of the flock. I went out seeking food for her in Rajab, And she left me behind with rebellion and flight. She broke the covenant and clung to the tail (of the tribe), And cast me into a thicket of tangled trees, And they are the worst of victors to the one who is overcome." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said at that: "They are the worst of victors to the one who is overcome." He complained to him about his wife and what she had done to him, and that she was with a man among them called Mutarrif ibn Bahsal. So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, wrote to him: "To Mutarrif: Look into the matter of this man's wife, Mu'adhah, and hand her over to him." The letter of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came to him and was read to him. He said to her: "O Mu'adhah, this is the letter of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, regarding you, so I am handing you over to him." She said: "Take for me from him a covenant, a pledge, and the protection of his Prophet that he will not punish me for what I have done." He took that for her from him, and Mutarrif handed her over to him. He (the husband) then began to recite: "By your life, my love for Mu'adhah is not that which The slanderer changes, nor the passage of time, Nor the evil of what she brought about when she was led away By the misguided men, when they whispered to her after me."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
