Musnad Ahmad 28:432

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from his father, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "Two traits—or two qualities—no Muslim man preserves them except that he will enter Paradise. They are easy, but those who act upon them are few: you glorify Allah (say *SubhanAllah*) ten times, and you praise Allah (say *Alhamdulillah*) ten times, and you magnify Allah (say *Allahu Akbar*) ten times at the end of every prayer. That is one hundred and fifty on the tongue, and one thousand five hundred on the scale. And you glorify Allah thirty-three times, and you praise Allah thirty-three times, and you magnify Allah thirty-four times—‘Ata’ did not know which of them was thirty-four—when he goes to his bed. That is one hundred on the tongue, and one thousand on the scale. So which of you commits two thousand five hundred sins in a day?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, how are they easy, yet those who act upon them are few?" He said: "The Shaytan comes to one of you when he finishes his prayer and reminds him of such-and-such a need, so he stands up and does not say them. And when he lies down, the Shaytan comes to him and puts him to sleep before he says them." I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) counting them on his hand. ‘Abdullah [ibn Ahmad] said: I heard ‘Ubaydullah al-Qawariri, I heard Hammad ibn Zayd saying: ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib came to us in Basra, and Ayyub said to us: "Go to him and ask him about the hadith of the *tasbih*," meaning this hadith.
