Musnad Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas (RA)

Hadith 28:509

Abu Nu‘aym narrated to us, Yunus—meaning Ibn Abi Ishaq—narrated to us, from Hilal ibn Khabbab Abu al-‘Ala’, who said: ‘Ikrimah narrated to me, ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr narrated to me, he said: While we were around the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), the tribulation (fitnah) was mentioned—or it was mentioned in his presence—so he said: "When you see that the people have had their covenants corrupted, their trusts have become unreliable, and they have become like this," and he interlaced his fingers. He said: So I stood up to him and said to him: "What should I do at that time, may Allah make me a ransom for you?" He said: "Keep to your house, restrain your tongue, take what you recognize [as good], leave what you disapprove of, attend to your own private affairs, and leave off the affairs of the general public."
