'Attab ibn Ziyad narrated to us, 'Abdullah—meaning Ibn al-Mubarak—narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn Shawdhab informed us, he said: 'Amir ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to me, from 'Abdullah ibn Buraydah, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As, he said: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) intended to divide spoils of war, he would command Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he would call out three times. A man came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) with a bridle made of hair after he had divided the spoils, and he said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is from the spoils that I had obtained." He said: "Did you not hear Bilal calling out three times?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then what prevented you from bringing it to me?" He offered an excuse to him, so the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "I will never accept it, until you are the one who brings it to me on the Day of Resurrection."
