Musnad Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas (RA)
Hadith 28:556
He said: And ‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb mentioned, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gave a judgment regarding a man who stabbed another man in his leg with a horn. The man said: "O Messenger of Allah, grant me retaliation." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him: "Do not be hasty until your wound heals." He said: But the man insisted on retaliation, so the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) granted him retaliation against the other. He said: Then the one who sought retaliation became lame, while the one against whom retaliation was sought healed. The one who sought retaliation came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, I have become lame, while my companion has healed?" The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him: "Did I not command you not to seek retaliation until your wound healed? You disobeyed me, so Allah distanced you, and your wound became void." Then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) commanded after the man who became lame: "Whoever has a wound, let him not seek retaliation until his wound heals; then, when his wound has healed, he may seek retaliation."
