Hadith 28:559

Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: And 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr: That the delegation of Hawazin came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was at al-Ji'ranah, and they had already accepted Islam. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are a root and a clan, and we have been afflicted by a calamity that is not hidden from you, so show us favor, may Allah show favor to you." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Are your children and your women more beloved to you, or your wealth?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, you have given us a choice between our lineage and our wealth; rather, return our women and our children to us, for that is more beloved to us." He said to them: "As for what belongs to me and to the sons of 'Abd al-Muttalib, it is yours. So when I have prayed the Dhuhr prayer for the people, stand up and say: 'We seek the intercession of the Messenger of Allah with the Muslims, and the intercession of the Muslims with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, regarding our children and our women.' For I will give to you at that time and I will ask on your behalf." When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had prayed the Dhuhr prayer with the people, they stood up and spoke what he had commanded them to say. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "As for what belongs to me and to the sons of 'Abd al-Muttalib, it is yours." The Muhajirun said: "And what belongs to us, it is for the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." And the Ansar said: "And what belongs to us, it is for the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." Al-Aqra' ibn Habis said: "As for me and the Banu Tamim, no." And 'Uyaynah ibn Hisn ibn Hudhayfah ibn Badr said: "As for me and the Banu Fazarah, no." 'Abbas ibn Mirdas said: "As for me and the Banu Sulaym, no." The Banu Sulaym said: "No, what belongs to us, it is for the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: 'Abbas said: "O Banu Sulaym, you have weakened me." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "As for whoever among you holds onto his right regarding these captives, he shall have six shares for every person from the first thing that comes to his share; so return the children and women to the people."
