Hadith 28:583
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib informed us, from his father, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr: "The Jews came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: 'As-samu 'alayk' (Death be upon you). And they said among themselves: 'Why does Allah not punish us for what we say?' [Al-Mujadilah: 8]. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: 'And when they come to you, they greet you with a greeting that Allah does not greet you with' — and he recited until His saying — 'and wretched is the destination' [Al-Mujadilah: 8]."
