Musnad ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA)
Hadith 26:164
Yazid narrated to us, Mas'udi informed us, from Yahya ibn al-Harith al-Jabir, from Abu Majid, who said: A man came to Ibn Mas'ud with a son of his brother and said: "This is my brother's son, and he has drunk [alcohol]." Abdullah said: "I have known the first prescribed punishment (hadd) that occurred in Islam. A woman stole, so her hand was cut off. The face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, changed severely because of that. Then he said: 'And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful' [An-Nur: 22]."
