Musnad Ahmad 26:269

Sulayman ibn Dawud narrated to us, Imran narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Abd Rabbih, from Abu Iyad, from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Beware of the trivialities of sins, for they gather upon a man until they destroy him." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave an example for them: Like a people who descended upon a barren land, and the time for the people’s cooking arrived. So a man would go and bring a stick, and a man would bring a stick, until they gathered a large pile. Then they kindled a fire and cooked what they had thrown into it.
