Hadith 26:280
Khalaf ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, from Zubayd, from Murrah, from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, who said: The polytheists detained the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from the Afternoon (Asr) prayer until the sun turned yellow or red. He said: "They distracted us from the Middle Prayer; may Allah fill their bellies—or may Allah stuff their bellies—and their graves with fire." *** Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us—Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: And I heard it myself from Abdullah—he said: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Ata ibn al-Sa’ib, from Abu Abd al-Rahman, from Abdullah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the devil, from his *hamz* (stifling/madness), his *nafth* (spitting/poetry), and his *nafkh* (blowing/pride)." And his *hamz* is the *mawta* (epilepsy/fainting), his *nafth* is poetry, and his *nafkh* is pride.
