Musnad Ahmad 26:314

Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Qays, from Ishaq ibn Abi al-Kahtalah, Muhammad said: I think it is from Ibn Mas’ud, that he said: "Indeed, Muhammad did not see Jibril in his form except twice. As for one time, he asked him to show himself to him in his form, so he showed him his form, and he blocked the horizon. And as for the other, he ascended with him when he ascended with him." And his saying: {While he was in the highest part of the horizon. Then he approached and descended. And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. And he revealed to His servant what he revealed} [An-Najm: 7-10]. He said: When Jibril sensed his Lord, he returned to his form and prostrated. So his saying: {And he certainly saw him in another descent, at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary. Near it is the Garden of Refuge. When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered. The sight did not swerve, nor did it transgress. He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord} [An-Najm: 13-18]. He said: The creation of Jibril, peace be upon him.
