Musnad Ahmad 26:359

'Affan narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, who said: I heard Abu al-Ahwas saying: 'Abdullah used to say, regarding the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: "If I were to take a *khalil* (intimate friend) from my nation, I would have taken Abu Bakr."
