Musnad Ahmad 26:395

'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Ata narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Aruba informed us, from Qatada, from 'Uzra, from al-Hasan al-'Urani, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, from Masruq, that a woman came to Ibn Mas'ud and said: "I have been informed that you forbid the hair-extender (al-wasila)?" He said: "Yes." She said: "Is this something you find in the Book of Allah, or did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him?" He said: "I find it in the Book of Allah and from the Messenger of Allah." She said: "By Allah, I have perused everything between the two covers of the Mushaf, and I did not find in it what you say." He said: "Did you find in it: 'And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from' [al-Hashr: 7]?" She said: "Yes." He said: "For I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbid the plucker of facial hair (al-namisa), the one who files teeth (al-washira), the hair-extender (al-wasila), and the tattooer (al-washima), except for a disease." The woman said: "Perhaps it is in some of your wives?" He said to her: "Enter." So she entered, then she came out and said: "I did not see anything wrong." He said: "If you had remembered, you would have remembered the instruction of the righteous servant: 'And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I have forbidden you' [Hud: 88]."
