Musnad ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA)

Hadith 26:411

Safwan ibn Isa narrated to us, Al-Harith ibn Abd al-Rahman informed us, from Mujahid, from Ibn Sakhbarah, who said: I went out early in the morning with Abdullah ibn Mas’ud from Mina to Arafat, and he was reciting the Talbiyah. He said: Abdullah was a dark-skinned man, with two braids, and upon him was the appearance of the people of the desert. A mob of the common people gathered around him and said: "O Bedouin, this is not a day for Talbiyah; it is only a day for Takbir." He said: At that, he turned to me and said: "Are the people ignorant, or have they forgotten? By the One who sent Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the truth, I went out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he did not cease the Talbiyah until he threw the pebbles at Jamrat al-Aqabah, except that he would intersperse it with Takbir or Tahlil."
