Musnad ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA)

Hadith 26:645

'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Qays, from Hudhayl, who said: A man came to Abu Musa and Salman ibn Rabi'ah and asked them about a daughter, a son's daughter, and a sister. They said: "The daughter gets half, and the sister gets half. Go to 'Abdullah, for he will agree with us." He went to 'Abdullah and informed him. He ('Abdullah) said: "I would have gone astray then, and I would not be among the guided. I will judge regarding it with the judgment of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)—or he said: the judgment of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)—so said Sufyan: 'The daughter gets half, the son's daughter gets one-sixth, and whatever remains is for the sister.'"
