Musnad ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA)
Hadith 26:705
Mu'awiyah ibn 'Amr narrated to us, he said: Za'idah narrated to us, 'Asim ibn Abi al-Najud narrated to us, from Zirr, from 'Abdullah: That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came to him while Abu Bakr and 'Umar were with him, and 'Abdullah was praying. He began [reciting] Surat al-Nisa' and completed it. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Whoever wishes to recite the Qur'an fresh as it was revealed, let him recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm 'Abd." Then he stepped forward and asked. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, began saying: "Ask, and you shall be given; ask, and you shall be given; ask, and you shall be given." He said regarding what he asked: "O Allah, I ask You for faith that does not turn back, and bliss that does not run out, and the companionship of Your Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in the highest eternal Paradise." He said: Then 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, came to 'Abdullah to give him the good news, and he found that Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, had preceded him. He said: "If you have done so, you have indeed been a forerunner in good."
