Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Khallas, and from Abu Hassan, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Utbah ibn Mas‘ud, from ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud: That Subay‘ah bint al-Harith delivered her pregnancy fifteen nights after the death of her husband. Abu al-Sanabil entered upon her and said, "It is as if you are speaking to yourself about marriage? You shall not have that until the longer of the two terms expires." She went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and informed him of what Abu al-Sanabil had said. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Abu al-Sanabil lied. When someone you are pleased with comes to you, bring him to me"—or he said, "Inform me"—and he informed her that her waiting period had expired.
