Musnad Ahmad 26:748

Ibrahim ibn Khalid narrated to us, Rabah narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from Abdullah ibn Uthman, from al-Qasim, from his father, that al-Walid ibn Uqbah delayed the prayer one time. So Abdullah ibn Mas'ud stood up and called for the prayer (iqaamah), and he led the people in prayer. Al-Walid sent to him: "What compelled you to do what you did? Did an order come to you from the Commander of the Faithful regarding what you did, or did you innovate?" He said: "No order came to me from the Commander of the Faithful, and I did not innovate. But Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, and His Messenger have refused for us to wait for you for our prayer while you are occupied with your need."
