Musnad Ahmad 26:751

Yahya ibn Zakariyya narrated to us, Israel narrated to me, from Abu Fazara, from Abu Zayd, the freed slave of ‘Amr ibn Hurayth, from Ibn Mas‘ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: "Do you have any purifying water?" I said: "No." He said: "Then what is this in the water skin?" I said: "Nabidh (date-infused water)." He said: "Show it to me. A good date and purifying water." Then he performed ablution with it and prayed.
